He backed off further to give her room. He was still watching her, and when she smiled at him he felt himself responding in kind, one corner of his mouth crooking upward in relief - she already looked much better.

"The imbibement of alcoholic beverages, while initially pleasurable, can quite easily lead to poor decision making, in seemingly direct proportions to the amount consumed. Perhaps the next time you decide to have a gathering, you should restrict the alcohol available to everyone?"

He shook his head, sizing up the frame in his hand as he looked over toward the wall with his artwork. "I don't mind at all. Do you happen to have a black Sharpie? I thought I might sign it first." His grin grew wider, hopeful. "You've been to Japan? How very interesting. I've never been anywhere I couldn't drive. Yes, I think I would like some tea, thank you."
