History:
It started out as a group of young 11-12 year old middle school girls. They were friends. They went to school together and lived a normal life in the sunshine state of California. After hitting puberty, they found that they had these strange powers. It was as if each one of them was given an element to control. Ruri’s element was fire.

Friends - Elements
Amber Maxwell – Ice
Kristen Heart – Lightening
Krysti Searle – Water
Savannah David – Earth
Camille Stadel – Wind

Together they were going to do great things and protect the city that they lived in. At first, it was a game. They would practice and be ridiculous while hidden beneath a bridge, it wasn’t a creative secret location but it was theirs. One day, Kristen didn’t meet them and everyone grew worried. When they went to find her, they found that her home had been attacked by something. Kristen’s father had been out at the time and together they worked to put the house back in order but they couldn’t find Kristen. They weren’t able to find her until the next day when she appeared at their secret spot. She waved off everyone’s worry but Savannah noticed something different in Kristen. Kristen had always been meaner than the others but not like this.

Ruri has yet to figure out how but her friend was taken over by a restless spirit. It wanted to use Kristen’s power to hurt the people who killed it. They couldn’t let that happen and they fought. No one wanted to hurt or do anything to Kristen but there were limited options open to them. Ruri knew about spirits, ever since she was small she could see them and her mom would tell Ruri about them. Ruri used her fire magic to hold Kristen and killed her. As both the evil soul and Kristen’s soul left Kristen’s body, Ruri reached out and grabbed onto Kristen’s soul. In order to return Kristen’s soul to her body Ruri used her own life and took Kristen’s place.

Ten years later Ruri wakes up in her home. Her body aged and intact. Her mother was gone but there was a note left behind. It detailed that Ruri’s mother had found out what happened and while she always knew about Ruri’s gifts, she should have done more to prepare her daughter to use them. Ruri was still dead, she felt the change, but she was also alive. She didn’t know what her mother had done but it had brought her back as a 22 year old. The house was willed to Ruri and she assumed the last name of Knight in order to assume a new life.

For the next six years, she works at department stores, fast food restaurants, and other odd jobs while trying to become a writer. Ruri never contacted her friends, not knowing if they’d want to even see her after all this time. When she’s 26, she’s found my a publisher who occasionally calls on her to write on different stories that get sold to blog sites, newspapers, and other forms. It took Ruri a lot of time and stumbling to get used to new technology. She goes to the library a lot and spends most of her time researching or sleeping when she’s not at work. As such, she doesn’t have many friends though she’s nice enough that people from her work bother her and make sure that she’s okay. Ruri is used to losing jobs. Some of the jobs she’s worked at includes: a candy store (Locally Own), a music venue, Pizza Hut, a grocery store (Wegman’s), Game Stop, Barnes & Nobel, Staples (Office Supplies Store), a music store (Music & Arts), Joe Ann Fabrics, Burcuchii’s (Italian Restaurant), etc.

Basic Information:
Ever since Ruri was young she could see things that others couldn't. Souls of the dead, fairies, there was a whole world out there and most ignored it. She was teased a lot but she never cared because she had her friends.

Ruri never knew who her dad was but her mom had enough love to make up for it. The woman was strong and kind and Ruri looked up to her. Their house was small but it suited their way of life. Ruri's mom, Yui Itō, was a painter who was decently known in the artist community for her fantastical paintings of what the world perceived as mythical creatures. Her mother was half-Japanese giving Ruri her gentle cheekbones, dark eyes and her pale complexion. Overall Ruri favored her fathers features having his hair, nose and ears.

Her childhood home is where she lives now. It has a mixture of western and Japanese styles with sliding doors for the bedrooms, as well as tatami mats. There is a couch in the living room but also a Kotatsu table. Her home has two small bedrooms, a bathroom, a small kitchen that has a washer and drier in the hall just past the kitchen and a small family room. There is space above her home but it is owned by someone else and often changes tenants.

Ruri's is a writer who holds a lot of random part-time jobs. She favored English in school and was determined to become a writer. She started writing cute fairy tale like stories when she was eight and continues to do so now.

Personality Information:
Ruri is sweet, out-going, and strong. She has a lot of internal strength and heart. She’s also the sort of person who will do anything for her friends. At times her rash actions or frustration gets the better of her but she tries to keep herself cool. She’s very passionate about the things she loves and she lights up when she talks about them. Her favorite things include anime, fantasy novels and things along those lines. She doesn’t do well watching horror but she will for her friends and then stay up trying not to give herself nightmares. She has a strong imagination and is able to see the world through many different viewpoints.

Due to Ruri’s situation, she’s a bit jaded when it comes to human relationships. She’s growing, learning, and trying to understand without a lot of the context that others have. This is why she struggles and at times over things situations. When she relies on her instinct, she’s fine but those are often rare cases. She’s usually awkward but it ends up being covered by her kindness.

Her worst quality is that she’s stubborn. It is impossible to talk her out of something once she puts her mind to it. She can be a force all her own. She’s also foolish and prefers to see the best in people, even those who don’t deserve her trust, making her very prone to getting hurt by others. She lies to herself when she’s unable to face the truths around her. She doesn’t think she’s strong enough to keep her friends safe and it really bothers her. She’s bad at opening up to people and ends up keeping a lot of secrets. She tries but she doesn’t know how to tell people the truth, she’s out of practice.

Powers/Skills:
SIGHT: Ruri is able to see spirits, ghosts and other magical entities. This is due to her lineage on her mom’s side, which spans back to Cain and Able who are the first Shinigami. She is also able to easily see through most magical illusions and layers of glamour over reality.

FIRE: Thing fire-bender but Avatar but very loosely based. Ruri is able to control the flow of energy and can do as little as warm herself to as much as blow up a building. She has used her abilities to cauterize wounds and can create a shield using the heat differential that can stop bullets. This specific form takes up a lot of focus and she’s unable to do more without training her abilities further. It’s the flow of energy that she can manipulate more than fire itself however she’s better practiced at using fire in a literal sense. She can also creature pressure vacuums and similar things using her abilities but she doesn’t currently know how. It’s all science. Ruri got these abilities with her friends when they stumbled onto an ancient shrine in the fifth grade; an elemental spirit bestowed them. The powers did not manifest until after their first period, which happened all at the same time around 11-12 years old (which is about 3 years later). Ruri is unaware that this is the source of her powers.

WRITER: Ruri is an amazing writer, even at a young age she’s been able to write at a higher level. She has failed one English class in middle school because she refused to start her paragraphs with First, Second and so on… Kristen re-submitted her paper for her, using the correct format. They were caught and pushed by the school system.

UNDEAD: She might not look it, but Ruri is already dead. As such, she cannot die. She’ll heal from anything, a tiny bit faster than most and slowly any detached limb will reattach itself. This ability means that she has no scars and will live for an indeterminate amount of time. That doesn’t mean that she’s invulnerable to pain and she will pass out if it gets too bad. At an unconscious state, she heals much faster. Ruri is a Shinigami and has to help spirits pass over. This often means stopping everything she’s doing to do it and she doesn’t have a choice in the matter, no matter how young the soul might be. If she doesn’t pass someone over then her soul will be taken and for lack of a better explanation she will die. Ruri does not age.

SWORDS: Ruri considers herself a literal knight and it's where her last name stems from. As such, she has a sword (it's made of fire) that she will use upon dire situations. She also has armor and an actual sword at her home but that most likely won't be taken with her in games. She is a very goof swords woman, specifically the broad sword or anything cutlass sized. (More or less anything that's similar to a metal baseball bat.)
